A course that broaches both the how and why of art criticism: how it is written and why it is undertaken at all. We will investigate the ways in which well written critique is produced, how it brings readers into deep relation with visual artwork and into a dialogue with the histories, values, and concerns that undergird its making.

A course that took on the procedures and methods of carrying out principled research, from formulating a research question, to identifying appropriate sources for data and methods for gathering that data, to developing an overall plan for the research project.
